Well it is that time of year again. Get out the dry erase board, Cheedos and Mountain Dew (Drink beer if you choose…I know I don’t get much done while drinking). Charge the cell phones and make sure you can find that little cord that powers that laptop, because it is time for some fantasy football drafting.
By no means am I claiming that I am an expert when it comes to FF. Any one that plays in a league with me knows that…but here is my take on a few things if you care to read. If you are new to Fantasy Football (like I was a few years ago) or if you have been playing for as long as you can remember, than you know as well as I do, that it is very easy to find a top 5 of any position ALL over the internet. So I am going to try something different. I am going to give my 5 picks at each position that I think should/may/may not have a break out year, at the least these 5 picks should be solid backups. If you miss out on nabbing one to the elites in any given position, maybe this is worth a read. Saying all this, I will most definitely provide you will a question or a rhetorical question?
Top 5 Solid Backup QB’s
1. Alex Smith – San Francisco 49ers
A defense to get the ball back in his hands, new added talent to the wide receiver pool, and a head coach that believes in you. Even though Alex Smith has been so bad, for so long he has been given the chance to redeem himself. “Was last year just a fluke?”
2. Matt Flynn – Seattle Seahawks
Flynn proved to be a great back up QB in Green Bay and has the potential to be dependable as a starter. Sidney Rice is healthy and T.O. is back and just as willing to grab up that media attention. Flynn also has a dynamic play making running back behind him, providing a situation that could make his fantasy stock rise. “Will Flynn fill that role of a starting QB or just be that really good backup Aaron Rodgers once had?”
3. Andy Dalton – Cincinnati Bengals
Coming off of a successful rookie year, Andy is now surrounded with the youngest receiving core in the NFL. Dalton has a talented Tight end, chemistry with his number 1 wide receiver and a dependable running back, all things that give him the potential to put up great fantasy points. “Andy Dalton for President?”(Sorry I had to)
4. Sam Bradford – Saint Louis Rams
Bradford has had potential to become a great QB for a few years. He is once again being handed that same opportunity this year. Bradford puts up dependable fantasy points and if injury free will continue to do so. “Will Bradford remain healthy?”
5. Ryan Tannehill – Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins need someone to step up and make some plays. Chances are that Ryan won’t sit around and watch someone else make those plays, his hot wife won’t let him. With a talented new back field, a dependable offensive line and Ochocinco changed his name back (Assuming that Johnson is serious about football again), Ryan has enough potential to keep Miami fans on the edge of their seat this season. “Will this draft pick work out for Miami?”
