The next stop on the PGA Tour is the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abby Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario. This HAS to be exciting for our friends to the North as there is no hockey currently and who is going to watch curling outside of the Olympics. With an added bonus there are now 19 home-town Canadian heroes to pull for in this tournament.
This Jack Nicklaus design should prove to be just what the player’s need after an exciting week at Muirfield, although notably Phil Mickelson is not part of the listed field for this event. What this guy wins his 5th major and then decides he can just take a week off?? Totally kidding Phil, go enjoy this one with Amy…you deserved it.
So on to the predictions:
Well I see very few big names in the field, but don’t tell the competitors that. Scott Piercy is the reigning champion at this event, but my pick for this week is Dustin Johnson. I think Dustin played very well at the Open Championship and that is going to do a lot for his confidence. I think Dustin will have a good week as long as he can get the putter and short game going early. This course seems to be a typical Jack Nicklaus design it that it will punish you if your short game is not spot on. I also think that Dustin is a big hitter that he will have success on the longer holes.
Ricky Barnes is a player that I can see pulling off some magic and having a very positive week. Ricky has been gaining more and more confidence throughout the year and I think he is posed to hoist another trophy in maple leaf country. I would recommend that he not wear the typical Sunday orange however unless he really wants to make a statement with those crazy Canuck fans.
To all my Canadian friends……I really want to be wrong and have a Canadian champion for your country, but after all your sport is not typically golf. In all reality does it even get warm enough to melt the snow up there?
Should be an exciting tourney and if nothing else there will be a lot of, “boy that was a nice shot eh?”
