Canada’s never give up attitude gave the French side to cry about after demoralizing defeat in the late moments of the Bronze Medal game. In the late moments the Canadians found the back net with a confused French side that was begging for an offside call. The goal was questionable after further review but in the end the goal stood and the Canadian women are going back heroes.
The controversy of the goal was did the Canadian striker, that was in offside position, get an unfair advantage for being in that position? In my opinion, no because the striker did not make contact with the ball and the French team stopped playing and were looking for help from the sideline assistant referee. You have to play to the whistle, a concept missed by the French nation. France played well and even dominated play in the second half and learned that you have to take advantage of your chances.
The USA delivered 2-1 win and brought home another set of medals to our country. The US got good footing when they scored in the first 15 minutes of the game (wow! who called that J). When watching the game; I apparently needed to put this in the previous articles but you need to shoot high on the Japanese keeper. I gave to much credit to the US coaching staff (I don’t understand this with these coaches experience at all levels) because that needed to be addressed in the locker room before the game and at halftime.
Here is mind blowing thought; when u have a tiny tiny goalkeeper, shoot the ball out of their reach. You think that didn’t need to be explained but many shots were at the small goalkeeper or within her small wingspan. Both goals scored were way out her reach, what a concept. Secondly, if a goalkeeper plays way to deep in the net that is a very obvious cue that a striker has a shooter’s choice shot (top corners and low corners are wide open). Hope wasn’t tested much in this game but made play when needed, kudos to her. This wasn’t the prettiest game but in the end the US team got the job done.
